L'Esplai d'Estiu, this su has been shortened to two weeks (instead of the usual 3) but has been the best edition of all.
First of all, because 15 children have passed through, plus 3 who have only come to play games, but the most important thing is that the vast majority were new children.
The monitors were: Paco Moruno, Enric Catalan, Antoni Ferret, Juan Moya, Amadeu Moya and Arnau

Sitges City Council awarded a diploma of recognition, at the suggestion of our club, to Carles Grau , as the most outstanding athlete of the last season,  mainly for his outstanding role in the last Catalan league and as a broadcaster of the main chess events in the chats of our club.

The Spanish Under-12 Championship is over, with a good result for both representatives of our Chess Club.

Martí Marín finished with 5.5 / 9, and Martina Lázaro with 5/9.
Too bad Martina's defeat in the last round that took her off the podium in the women's category, in which she climbed last year in the under-10 category, in which she fell champion of Spain.

A good debut for these promising youngsters, in this category, in which they were still first-year players.

On the afternoon of June 21, and under the shade of the pines of the Parc del Rocar, in front of the Espai Jove de Sitges, this traditional championship took place, as the closing of the Chess School of the course 2020-2021, and that has meant a return to face-to-face competitions, after the whole course had to be done online due to the pandemic.

The final number of 40 entrants was good enough, given the difficulties of this course.

The winners of the different categories were:

- Sub-8  : Marco Olivieri

- Under-10: Pepe Vilalta

- Under-12: Bernat Moya

- Sub 14/16: Martí Marín .

For four Sundays, from March 27 to June 19, this online championship was held, organized by the Sports Councils of the province of Barcelona. Our best player was the young promise of only 6 years old Xavier Rosique, who was second in the category of  Pre-benjamins. Pepe Vilalta , Diego Dupont and Matías Forado also took part with good results, but as they did not take part in all the rounds, they could not have an outstanding final classification.

On June 18, and after 35 weeks, the "Chess Friday" tournament (formerly "Parents' Championship"), led by Paco Moruno and  reserved for adults or advanced youngsters, played in lichess, at the rate of 30 '+ 10 ", in the challenge mode, and which has been the only tournament that has allowed to keep the chess activity throughout the season to more than 20 enthusiastic players.
The final winner was the young player Daniel Chiochia , followed by our great promise Martí Marín and Matthieu Boers .
The three will receive a dinner for two at the Cañateca del Prado.

This championship, organized by the Garraf Sports Council, has been played for the first time in Canyelles and has been marked by low participation due to the coronavirus.

As for our 11 representatives, they have had a performance.

- In Pre-Benjamins, Xavier Rosique has become champion

- In Benjamins, Pepe Vilalta has been champion and Aaron Herter , second

- In Infantils-Cadets: And rene Almazan was second and Armengol Mas , third.

From the Instagram channel of Sitges City Council, on Thursday 20 May, the 4th Sports Webinar was broadcast, this time dedicated to our Chess Supporters Club, in which our president Francesc González and the Deputy Director of the Chess School Paco Moruno spoke about the present and future of our Supporters Club.
These Sports Webinars are an initiative of the communication department of our City Council, to make our sports clubs known to the people of Sitges.

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary, the family of our chess player Ewald Lenhardt , presented him with a "master class" by MI Marcelo Panelo . For our part, a short video was sent to him with the congratulations of our president Francesc González and of several of his classmates from the adult class and the Parents' Championship. Our vice-president Antoni Ferret also gave him the book dedicated to the 75th anniversary of our club.

(March 27 to April 1, 2021)

In a face-to-face edition, our representatives, only 3, compared to 5 last year and 15 before the pandemic, have had a great performance.
In the U-12, Martina , with a magnificent 6/9, finished in 11th place, which has a lot of merit because she faced the top three players in the ranking, and being new in the category. This position allowed her to be runner-up in the women's Catalonia. Also very good Martí, also new in this category, but a pity for the defeat in the last round, against the number 4 in the ranking, which leaves him with 5.5 / 9 and relegates him to the 18th position when he had always been playing on the first boards.
In Under-14, Leo , also new to the category, has  finished the championship with a more than worthy 5/9

(Sundays, February 7 to March 21)

For the second year in a row, and on the occasion of the pandemic, the Catalan Federation convened this online championship, by teams, of 4 players, of active chess (12 '+ 5 "), and by the Swiss system, but this time without limitation of 'ELO and the free platform lichess.This edition was a great success of participation, with 120 teams, almost double last year and  the Penya participated again with two teams. The A was made up of first and second team players, and the B was made up of school players, with occasional contributions from some parents. Supporters Club players remain active during this pandemic time.

Great result for our little ones in this online championship, Arena type, 7 '+ 0 ", organized by the Sports Councils of the territory of Barcelona.

BENJAMINS: Pepe Vilalta , 5th, Aaron Herter 8th and Diego Dupont 39th out of 104
CHILDREN: Matías Forado , 10th out of 42
There was also an adult category in which Carme Sardà and Juan Moya took part .

​ In the February 26 issue, the Sitges ECO publishes, in the sports section, a full-page interview with the Moya-Sardà family. As they explain in the interview, the first to sign up for the 'chess school was Bernat , the youngest son who spread his love to Amadeu , his older brother. Then his father Juan federated (to cover possible casualties in the team championship) and finally the mother, Carme , has completed the first Sitges family in which all its members are federated.

On Monday 15 February, the president of the Peña, Francesc González , accompanied by the deputy director of the chess school, Paco Moruno , presented the gold badge, a newly created award, with the shield of the club,  to Antoni Ferret , director of the Chess School, on the occasion of his 50 years teaching chess in Sitges.
The pandemic forced the simple act to take place in his home.

On January 11, the 1st course for Adult Beginners began, with 12  participants (with 5 parents of students from our chess school), which will take place every Monday, from 6.30 pm to 8 pm. until June
 

(January 3 and 4, 2021)
Great success of participation, with 58 registered (20 from Sitges), in this first online edition, played at the rate of 20 '+ 5 "in 7 rounds, in which guest players from Vilanova, Vilafranca and El Vendrell played (plus some players from other counties).
This great external participation has made the championship very strong, as shown by the fact that none of our players have been able to win in any category. The only negative note has been that a player has had to be eliminated for practice. contrary to fair play.
Our best players were:
- Sub-8  : Pepe Vilalta 6th.
- Under-10: Martí Marín 2nd
- Under-12 : Ferran Moruno 2nd and Bernat Moya 3rd
- Under-14: Leo Gardner 2nd

The main favorites prevail in this traditional championship, played for the first time online, which has favored the increase in participation that has reached 26 players.
After the 9 regular rounds, played by the Swiss system, at a pace of 3 '+ 2 ", the winner was  Toni Marcet , followed by Josep MªCrespo and Joaquim Fabregat .
The best players in the school were Daniel Chiochia (7th) and Leo Gardne r (9th)

Martí Marín , with 4/4 wins alone the traditional Christmas tournament of the Vilafranca chess club, of a family nature, in which we have been invited this year.

Great success of the Sunway Chess Festival, in an edition marked by the COVID-19.
This year's edition had a total of 232 participants from 30 countries, a figure that, although half of the previous year, is surprisingly good given the existing mobility limitations.
The final winner in Group A was the No. 2 player in the ranking, the Bulgarian GM Ivan Cheparinov (2660) , with 8 points out of 10.
Of our Supporters Club, only Leo Gardner participated in group A and Martina Lázaro and Martí Marín in group B, with very good performances of the latter, with 5/10 and 4/9 respectively, while Leo suffered the hardness to participate in group A.

(Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 December)

The results of the Penya players were:
- Sub-8  : Pepe Vilalta 10th and Aaron Herter  12th, of 35 players.
- Under-12: Bernat Moya 39th out of 61 players
- Under-14: and Leo Gardner , 19th of 41 players.

In the December 11 edition, again the ECO editorial  talks about chess being in vogue thanks to the "El Gambito de dama" series, but especially about the Sunway Chess Festival, and the bounce of our Chess Supporters Club.

Veteranism prevails in an atypical social championship, played online, in a single group with 28 participants, and marked by the low participation of first team players.
After the 7 rounds of regulation, played by the Swiss system (20 '+ 10 "), the traditional ham of the winner is won by the president of the Penya, Francesc González , accompanied on the podium by Luís Gabriel Peredo and Antoni Ferret.
The other places with prizes were for the young players Eric Solís (4th) and Leo Gardner (5th)
